Patol (T. dioica), is used as a tonic, febrifuge, and to treat edema, alopecia, and in subacute cases of liver enlargement. In Charaka Samhita, the fruits and leaves of Patol are used to treat alcoholics and those suffering from jaundice. Ayurveda considers the leaves of this plant to be antipyretic, diuretic, cardiotonic, laxative, antiulcer, etc. It contains chemical constituents, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, etc.
