Brihati, or Sunoum indicum Linn., is an important plant in many South East Asian countries both for its medicinal properties and for its economic importance. Researchers found that the plant possessed antibacterial, antioxidant, anthelmintic, antiplasmodial, hepatoprotective, anticancer, laxative, cardiotonic, and antihypertensive properties. Experimental pharmacology has examined the therapeutic claims for the plants in the various traditional medicines. The majority of their therapeutic benefits have been confirmed.
