PHYTOPHARMACOLOGY OF AN IMPORTANT UNANI DRUG BAZR-UL-BANJ

Ajwain Khurasani (Hyoscyamus niger Linn.) is one of the most important drugs. According to Unani classical literature, Bazr-ul-Banj has digestive, cicatrizant, narcotic, and astringent properties. It is useful in nervous affections, uterine spasm, gout etc. Studies have shown that it exhibits pharmacological effects, like antibacterial, anticancer, analgesic, antihypertensive, and antidiarrheal properties. COVID-19 treatment with the drug appears to be beneficial, and it should be further assessed as an adjuvant medicine.
