Arq Shahtara

Hamdard Arq Shahatra is a Unani formulation. It is available in the form of syrup. The formulation has been found to be effective in the treatment of long-term and prolonged fever. Important Therapeutic Uses of Arq Shahatra Boils, Gonorrhea, Dosage: It is taken in a 50 ml dose with water, twice a day. Preparation of Arq Shahatra- For the preparation of Ark, the dried herbs are cleaned and coarsely powdered. Some quantity of water is added to it for soaking and kept over-night. Soaking helps to soften the herb and when boiled releases the essential volatile principles easily. Next morning this is poured into the distillation apparatus and boiled. The vapor is condensed and collected in a receiver. In the beginning, the vapor consists of only steam and may not contain the essential principles of the drugs. It should, therefore, be discarded. The last portion also may not contain therapeutically essential substance and should be discarded. The aliquots collected in between contain the active ingredients and may be mixed together to ensure uniformity of the Arka. Dosage: It is taken in a 50 ml dose with water, twice a day. Contraindications, Interactions, Side-effects, and Warnings 1- Always take this medicine in the recommended dosage to prevent any side-effect. 2- Heart patients should take this medicine after consulting doctor. 3- In larger dose, it may cause pain in abdomen, diarrhea, vomiting. It can cause sedation, depression of central nervous system and depression in reflexes of spinal cord. 4- Overdoses can cause intestinal disease, abdominal disease, headache, irritability, nausea and vomiting. 5- It should not be given to children. 6- It is better to avoid this medicine in pregnancy. Storage- 1-Store it in a cool and dry place and in a tightly closed container and also protect it from light and moisture.
