Stomach problems refer to diseases of organs that are part of the digestive system, including the stomach, intestines, oesophagus, rectum, etc. A healthy digestive system is very important for maintaining good health as it plays a crucial role in the absorption and distribution of nutrients and in eliminating unwanted toxins and wastes from the body. An unhealthy lifestyle such as smoking, lack of sleep, and eating too many fried or high-calorie foods increases the risk of developing stomach problems such as Stomach Ulcers, Hyperacidity, Gastroenteritis, Constipation, and Flatulence, Vomiting, etc.

According to Ayurveda, digestive health is the most important long-term factor in your health and well-being. When your digestion is healthy, your body can produce healthy tissue (dhatus). When digestion is weak, the body's tissues, such as muscles, blood, and nerves, become weak, making the body susceptible to disease. The Ayurvedic therapies and medicines offered to treat stomach problems in Ayurveda are mainly aimed at correcting the imbalance of doshas.

In this blog, we will learn about the common digestive issues faced by people and how they can be effectively treated with the best ayurvedic medicine for gastric problems.

Common Digestive Problems

Listed below are some common digestive issues that most people face:

  1. Constipation: Constipation is defined by irregular, difficult-to-control bowel movements. It is a symptom, not an illness, so treating it requires determining the underlying reason, which could be an inappropriate diet, hormone imbalance, or something else.
  2. Hyperacidity/Heartburn/GERD: The common symptoms of hyperacidity/heartburn/GERD are chest pain, coughing, and a burning sensation in the chest. It is important to avoid various triggers like certain foods, medications, obesity, and even stress and focus on improving eating habits, changing a lifestyle, and using natural remedies to relieve this condition.
  3. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): IBD refers to a set of inflammatory illnesses that affect the small intestine and colon. The most common types of inflammatory bowel illness are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Crohn's disease, most notably, affects not only the small and large intestines, but also the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, and anus. In ulcerative colitis, on the other hand, it is mainly the colon and rectum that are affected.
  4. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or spastic colon: This is a symptom-based diagnosis characterised by chronic stomach pain, discomfort, bloating, and bowel changes. Constipation or diarrhoea may predominate or alternate (classified as IBS-D, IBS-C, and IBS-A, respectively). There is no known organic cause for IBS because it is a functional gastrointestinal condition. However, excessive cell activation plays a fundamental pathophysiologic role in the disorder.
  5. Intestinal Obstruction: Intestinal obstruction refers to a blockage in the small or large intestine. The obstruction, which can be partial or full, prevents food and fluid from flowing through the intestine, producing significant pain.
