It includes four phases:  

1. Menstrual Phase: Bleeding lasts about 2 to 7 days.  

2. Follicular Phase: This phase starts on the first day of menstruation and continues until ovulation. During this phase, the uterine lining thickens to prepare for a potential pregnancy. 

3. Ovulation: Around day 14 in a 28-day cycle, an egg is released from the ovary.  

4. Luteal Phase: Post-ovulation phase where the uterine lining continues to thicken. If the egg isn’t fertilized, hormone levels drop, leading to menstruation.  

However, many women experience irregular period problems, where their cycle length, frequency, or flow deviates significantly from this typical pattern. This can manifest as shorter or longer cycles, skipped periods, heavy bleeding, light bleeding, spotting, or severe cramps.
