One of today's most prevalent reproductive disorders in women is a polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Around 10% of women globally experience polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It is a serious problem that could eventually result in infertility and a number of other health problems. Numerous symptoms, such as irregular or nonexistent periods, anovulation, obesity, insulin resistance, hyperandrogenism, and even mortality, can be caused by PCOS.

Read on to learn about the best treatment and ayurvedic medicine for PCOS that help in losing weight.

Why does Polycystic Ovary Syndrome cause weight gain?

When PCOS is present, the body has a harder time utilizing the hormone insulin, which generally helps in converting the carbohydrates and starches in food into energy. The condition known as insulin resistance can result in an accumulation of insulin and glucose in the blood.

When insulin levels are high, male hormones called androgens are produced in greater quantities, which results in acne, irregular periods, body hair growth, and weight gain.

Men typically carry more weight in their abdomens, where weight gain typically takes place. As a result, women with PCOS tend to have an apple rather than a pear shape.

How does PCOS-related weight gain affect health?

Whatever the cause, gaining weight can be detrimental to your health. There are many problems associated with weight gain and insulin resistance that women with PCOS are more likely to develop.

These include:

Many of these conditions can lead to heart disease and weight gain and also helps trigger PCOS symptoms, such as menstrual abnormalities and acne.

Lifestyle Recommendations for PCOS

1. Stay well hydrated.

Drinking water throughout the day is crucial for PCOS-affected women. A regular water intake of 1.5 to 2 liters is advised.

2. Do moderate exercise for nearly 45 minutes daily.

Unexpected weight gain and elevated insulin levels are two of the negative effects that women with PCOS face. Moderate exercise, such as walking, jogging, or cycling, aids in weight loss and insulin control.

3. Practice yoga and pranayama.

Yoga is a holistic medical practice that can help ease the mind and body. In women with PCOS, yoga can provide relief from abdominal pain and also regulate anxiety, hormones, menstrual cycles, and other metabolic parameters. The regular practice of pranayama, or breathing exercises, reduces stress and calms the mind.

4. Eat a high-fiber, low-sugar diet.

Load up on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Stay away from processed and fatty foods to control your blood sugar levels. Speak to your doctor or a nutritionist if you're having problems maintaining a healthy diet on your own. Instead of three substantial meals during the day, eat four to six smaller ones. This will definitely help in controlling your blood sugar levels.

5. Manage stress and anxiety.

Women with PCOS produce more cortisol (a stress hormone), but they are unable to metabolise it. Anxiety, depression, and stress are caused by cortisol buildup. As a result, it's critical to control your stress by following the aforementioned advice and eating a balanced diet.
