Betula utilis is commonly known as bhojpatra in traditional medicine and is known for its beneficial properties. As a potential herbal drug, bhojpatra possesses anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-HIV, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Astringent properties of Birch bark's papery layer make it an excellent styptic (to stop bleeding) and to stop purulent discharge. Bhojpatra is indicated for local application in skin diseases. It also lowers the effects of poisons and controls obesity.
